How it all started…
Original Dunagrees began with the spark of an idea between two childhood friends from Pushkar in India, Shailendra and Ismail. Having grown up together in the same small town they ventured off in different directions both working in the clothing industry. Shailendra owned successful clothing shops in and around Goa and Ismail built up his thriving garment manufacturing business on the outskirts of Pushkar.
Fast forward to the present day, Shailendra relocated to the UK and the timing was right to collaborate! Add to the mix Alice, bringing organisation and creative ideas to the table and Original Dunagrees was formed, an independent brand with strong roots in both India and the UK.

As a team we have always had a strong vision of what we want to design from gorgeous quality block print boho dresses to vibrant, wearable dungarees and jumpsuits. Having the right colours and prints is key for us and we spend many hours carefully choosing the perfect fabrics, shades and patterns which as much as possible we source from the local area, near our solar powered factory in Rajasthan.
Our clothes are handmade, our fabric dyes are mostly natural and vegan and we favour the more traditional ‘hand block printing’ over machine. Our factory offers a high standard of facilities for our employees and we’re proud that our business has created many jobs providing meaningful work in the local community, especially for women.

So, we were finally ready to open a store!
We knew from the get-go that Brighton was the perfect location for us and by the end of Summer 2022 we had secured our first shop on Duke Street. We’ve filled it with our favourite colourful pieces, from cord and flower print dungarees to vintage print jumpsuits and hand block printed dresses. We opened our doors in October 2022 and we’ve never looked back!
